The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the incidents that occurred during Sunday’s CAF Champions League clash between Egypt’s Al Ahly and Morocco’s FAR Rabat, describing the behavior as unacceptable. The match was marred by Al Ahly supporters throwing water bottles at FAR players and causing disturbances in the stadium.
In an official statement, CAF announced that it would refer the matter to its Disciplinary Committee to investigate and sanction all parties involved. The governing body emphasized the importance of clubs adhering to disciplinary regulations and taking measures to prevent any form of violence or crowd disruption that could compromise the integrity of competitions.
CAF emphasized that sport should remain a platform for fair competition and mutual understanding between people. The governing body stressed that any violations of these principles would not be tolerated and called on clubs and fans to respect the rules and regulations to ensure that tournaments proceed in a positive and professional environment.
The match ended in a goalless draw, securing Al Ahly’s position at the top of Group B with 10 points. FAR Rabat finished second with nine points, also advancing to the quarter-finals.
