Morocco, Finland agree to further bolster economic and trade relations

The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Finland on Sunday hailed the excellence of their bilateral relations, describing them as dynamic and mutually beneficial, and agreed to further strengthen economic and trade ties across a range of strategic sectors.

The commitment was outlined in a Joint Communiqué adopted following talks in Rabat between Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

In the communiqué, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in relations, particularly in the wake of Bourita’s visit to Finland in August 2024, which they said helped inject new dynamism and opened promising prospects for cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their determination to further bolster economic and trade relations by focusing on key strategic sectors. These include digitalization and the deployment of secure, resilient and reliable 5G networks, as well as information and communication technologies sourced from trusted providers.

The communiqué also identified water-related technologies and renewable energies as high-potential areas for enhanced collaboration, reflecting shared priorities in sustainable development and green transition.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, the ministers exchanged views on a range of pressing international issues. Discussions covered the situation in the Middle East and Europe, as well as developments in the Sahel and Sudan.

Bourita and Valtonen also addressed broader changes in the global order, reaffirming the importance of upholding an international system grounded in the rules and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. In particular, they stressed the obligation of States to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State.

Valtonen’s official visit to the Kingdom, at the invitation of Bourita, underscores the shared determination of Rabat and Helsinki to consolidate their partnership and elevate it to a privileged level, built on trust, regular political dialogue and strengthened sectoral cooperation.
