Australian Parliamentary Delegation Hails Growth Momentum in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra

An Australian parliamentary delegation hailed, on Tuesday in Laayoune, the multi-area progress momentum of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region.

The members of the parliamentary delegation, currently on a working visit to Morocco from October 27 to November 2, attended presentations and carried out field visits to explore the region's potential and infrastructure in various socio-economic sectors.

Rowan Eric Ramsey, MP for the Australian Liberal Party, told the press that the aim of the visit was to explore new prospects for cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco.

"Today, the southern provinces are experiencing a major boom in terms of investment, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI,” Ramsey continued, emphasizing Moroccan government efforts to ensure full-fledged economic development in these provinces.

The Australian MP also welcomed the incentives for investment in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, calling for joint efforts to raise the level of economic relations between the two countries.

For her part, Liberal Senator Hollie Alexandra Hughes highlighted the ties between Morocco and Australia, noting that the visit helped the delegation explore ways of further developing partnership relations in a several areas.

For his part, President of the Regional Council Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid stated that the Australian parliamentary delegation had learned about the region's notable development, through the implementation of the new development model for the southern provinces.

He also noted that the visit provided an opportunity to discuss with the members of the delegation means of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the economic sphere, notably in sectors linked to renewable energies and agriculture, in particular camel and sheep farming.

On this occasion, members of the delegation attended a presentation at the headquarters of the Regional Council on the regional development program, and learned about various projects included in the new development model for the southern provinces, launched by King Mohammed VI in 2015.

Earlier in the day, the Australian parliamentary delegation had held talks with Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of Laayoune province Abdeslam Bekrate, during which emphasis was placed on the relevance of the autonomy plan presented by Morocco, as well as on the growth boom observed in the region in various fields.

The delegation also visited major projects to witness the quality of the educational, sports and socio-economic infrastructure.
