Gibraltar looks for increasing trade relations with Morocco

Gibraltar seeks to boost trade relations with its southern neighbor, Morocco, and benefit from the trade treaty that was signed between London and Rabat in 2019.

According to media reports, The Gibraltar Morocco Business Association is working with the British Chamber of Commerce for Morocco to help increase trade with the Rock’s southern neighbor.

Historically, the relations between Morocco and Great Britain have always been strong, and London sees Rabat as a reliable partner in trade, and this reliability has been promoted after Brexit.

As the trade relations between Gibraltar and its European surrounding, such as Spain, have not yet been clarified since Brexit, The British rock wants to move forward to strengthening the trade exchange with the Kingdom of Morocco.

Several Spain media reports have pointed out some Spanish fear of Gibraltar’s growing interest in boosting trade relations with Morocco at the expense of Spain.

Madrid has been trying within the European Union since Brexit to grant Gibraltar a special status and maintain normal relations with the rock in spite of the exit of the UK from the Union, but no decision has been made in this regard so far.
