The Moroccan industrial sector has demonstrated its ability to meet all the needs of the Kingdom, in spite of COVID-19 pandemic repercussions, said Tuesday in Rabat the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.
In response to oral questions at the House of Advisors (upper house) on the prospects and challenges of Morocco's industrial policy, Mezzour stressed that the Moroccan industry is about to take advantage of geostrategic transformations imposed by the pandemic.
He added that the industrial ecosystem can innovate by providing several products in various fields.
Mezzour further noted that the Ministry is currently working, as part of its policy and strategy, to ensure industrial recovery through the restoration of lost jobs, highlighting the restoration of 98% of jobs that existed in 2019 by the end of 2021.
In addition, the Minister pointed out that Morocco is considered the fifth largest cars exporter to Europe, stating that 63% of automotive spare parts are manufactured in the Kingdom in 250 plants that employ 180,000 Moroccans.
He also noted that the city of Casablanca ranks 12th in the world in terms of investment in innovation in the automotive sector.
Regarding the competitiveness of leading sectors at the global level, Mezzour stressed that the Moroccan industrial ecosystem occupies third place after India and China.
In this regard, he noted that Morocco aspires to occupy the first place and this, by further strengthening integration and improving Moroccan products' value through decarbonization, which will give the Kingdom a great privilege over competing countries.
He concluded that a program has been set up to identify imports that can be manufactured in Morocco, adding that about 800 industrial projects, covering all regions of the Kingdom and providing 130,000 jobs, have been received.
