Some 82,000 jobs were created in 2024, according to Morocco's High Commission for Planning (HCP).
“After a loss of 157,000 jobs a year earlier, the national economy created 82,000 jobs in 2024, as a result of creating 162,000 positions in urban areas and losing 80,000 in rural areas,” HCP explained in its latest information note on the labor market situation.
With regards to employment type, 177,000 paid jobs were created, with 157,000 jobs created in urban areas and 20,000 in rural areas. Unpaid employment fell to 95,000 jobs, due to a 100,000 job drop in rural areas and a 5,000 job increase in urban areas.
The HCP also reported on the virtually stagnating activity rate between 2023 and 2024, edging up from 43.6% to 43.5%.
By residential areas, the rate fell by 0.8 points in rural areas (from 47.3% to 46.5%), and rose by 0.2 points in urban areas (from 41.8% to 42%). It increased by 0.1 points among women to 19.1%, and dropped by 0.4 points among men (68.6%).
