Moroccan-Israeli alliance worries Spanish military circles, press report says

The military alliance between Morocco and Israel causes worries amid the Spanish military circle according to several Spanish diplomats and experts, reported El Confidencial on Thursday.

According to the report, the beginning of this alliance backs to late 2020 when the U.S. administration led by Donald Trump brokered a deal between Rabat and Tel Aviv to normalize bilateral relations, in return for recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

Since the normalization agreement, Morocco and Israel have signed a number of military deals, as well as the exchange of visits between military officials from the two countries, notably the Israelis who visited Rabat such as Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, and the Israeli Army Chief, Aviv Kochavi.

El Confidencial added that Morocco has acquired a lot of Israeli-developed military gear, besides, the two parties agreed to establish a factory in Morocco to manufacture military drones “Kamikaze” in the coming years.

The alliance between Israel and Morocco, the Spanish newspaper said, doesn’t stop here, it also includes the cooperation in defense field such as exchanging experiences, which increases the military capabilities of the two armies and strengthens their ability to deal with security threats.

The Spanish newspaper concluded that all these accelerated developments between Israel and Morocco coincide with the modernization that Morocco is carrying out to modernize its military arsenal, it carries a concern for the military circles in Spain, especially since these developments indicate the possibility of many changes in the balance of power between the countries of the region.
