Moroccan Passport Climbs Two Places in Henley Index, Ranks Strongest in North Africa

The Moroccan passport has climbed two places in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, ranking 65th globally and consolidating its position as the strongest passport in North Africa.

According to the latest edition of the index published by Henley & Partners, Moroccan passport holders can now travel to 72 destinations worldwide either visa-free or with simplified entry procedures, reflecting a gradual improvement in mobility, particularly across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

With this ranking, Morocco leads North Africa ahead of Tunisia (70th), Mauritania (79th), Algeria (80th), Egypt (85th) and Libya (93rd), highlighting widening disparities in passport strength across the region.

The new position marks an improvement on the previous edition of the index, where Morocco ranked 67th. In the 2026 ranking, Morocco is tied with the Dominican Republic and Eswatini.

At the continental level, Morocco ranks seventh in Africa, behind Seychelles, which tops the African list, followed by Mauritius, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. Morocco also outperforms several major African countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi and The Gambia.

Moroccan citizens benefit from visa-free or simplified access to a range of countries, particularly in Africa, such as Senegal, Tunisia and Seychelles. In Asia, accessible destinations include Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and the Maldives. In the Middle East, Moroccans can travel more easily to Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and Palestine.

In Europe, the Moroccan passport allows entry to countries including Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Access is also available to several countries in the Americas, such as Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, as well as a number of Caribbean states. In Oceania, destinations include Samoa, Vanuatu, Micronesia and the Cook Islands.

The Henley Passport Index covers 199 passports and 227 destinations worldwide and is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Globally, Singapore tops the 2026 ranking as the world’s most powerful passport, followed by Japan and South Korea, while Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the index.
