Morocco announces three Monkeypox suspected cases are negative

The laboratory results of the three suspected cases of monkeypox recorded in Morocco are negative, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said Wednesday.

The three suspected cases turned out to be negative following laboratory tests carried out at the Ibn Sina military hospital in Marrakech, the ministry pointed out in a statement, adding that the suspected cases placed under medical surveillance are in good health and are being treated in accordance with current health procedures.

Based on epidemiological data, no confirmed case of monkeypox has been recorded in Morocco so far, the ministry added.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reacted quickly by setting up an epidemiological monitoring and surveillance system for suspected cases of the disease, with laboratory analyses being carried out both at the National Institute of Hygiene and in military laboratories.

Health officials received training on this disease which has never been detected in the Kingdom, the ministry said.

To this end, the services of the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry are taking the necessary measures, in compliance with national and international standards of health security.

The ministry said that it will maintain communication with the public opinion to inform on health developments related to this global health alert.
