Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international health partnerships as Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tahraoui held talks in Addis Ababa with Françoise Vanni, Director of External Relations and Communications at the Global Fund, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation and reinforcing national health sovereignty.
The meeting served as an occasion for the Global Fund to thank Morocco for its support during the Fund’s eighth replenishment cycle, while praising what it described as an exemplary and long-standing partnership with the Kingdom, particularly in the fight against HIV and tuberculosis. Officials highlighted Morocco’s consistent engagement in advancing equitable healthcare access and its steady transition toward greater mobilization of domestic financial resources.
Discussions also centered on future avenues of collaboration, including the organization of a Global Fund mission to Morocco aimed at showcasing program results on the ground and consolidating ongoing initiatives. Both sides underlined the importance of maintaining continuity in joint programs that have contributed to strengthening national health systems over the years.
Another key focus of the talks involved Morocco’s participation in technical working groups related to procurement mechanisms and medical supply chains, within a broader South-South cooperation framework. This approach, officials noted, seeks to enhance regional coordination while reinforcing the Kingdom’s ambition to achieve greater health sovereignty and reduce external dependency in strategic sectors.
The dialogue further emphasized the strategic importance of channeling investments toward innovation, research and development, and technology transfer, positioning Morocco as a regional hub for healthcare expertise and medical advancement.
