Morocco Hosts Planning Meeting for “African Lion 2026” Military Exercise in Agadir

A major planning meeting for the multinational military exercise “African Lion 2026” is being held from December 8 to 12, 2025, at the South Zone Headquarters in Agadir, with the participation of representatives from several countries, including the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

The meeting focuses on advancing discussions related to interoperability, logistics, and the integration of forces across multiple operational domains, including air, land, sea, and special operations, as military planners work to finalize the framework of one of Africa’s largest joint military exercises.

The “African Lion 2026” exercise is scheduled to take place from April 20 to May 8, 2026, across several Moroccan regions, namely Agadir, Tan Tan, Taroudant, Kenitra, and Ben Guerir. The exercise aims to enhance coordination between participating armed forces, strengthen operational readiness, and improve the capacity to conduct combined and joint operations, while contributing to regional security and stability.

The FAR General Staff noted that around 40,000 military personnel have taken part in the last five editions of “African Lion,” highlighting the growing strategic importance of the exercise and the strong commitment of partner countries. The annual drill is widely regarded as the largest military event on the African continent.
