Morocco's Tangier to Host 17th World Conference Cities and Ports on 11-13 May 2022

The 17th World Conference Cities and Ports, an international meeting of stakeholders in the sustainable development of port cities, will be held from 11 to 13 May 2022 in Tangier, the organizers announced Thursday in Brussels.

This new edition was presented during a meeting of the worldwide network of port cities (AIVP) which organizes this major event.

The World Conference Cities and Ports, the last edition of which was organized in 2018 in Quebec, is intended to be an opportunity to take stock of the challenges facing port cities, exchange expertise and strengthen partnerships between AIVP members.

During "AIVP Meetings" in Brussels, CEO of the Quebec Port Authority, Mario Girard, officially passed the torch to the city of Tangier to host the 17th World Conference Cities and Ports, initially scheduled for 2020, but postponed due to the Covid-19 health crisis.

Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan ambassador to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Mohamed Ameur, welcomed the choice of Tangier to host this international conference, noting that this city has experienced for several years a dynamic development driven by a new vision of land use planning which is meant to revitalize the Mediterranean coast.

In this context, noted the ambassador, the port of Tangier Med has managed, in less than 15 years, to become the 1st platform in terms of containers in the Mediterranean region and Africa.

"Today, the port of Tangier Med is an industrial and logistical port hub," he stressed, noting that it is also a major platform at the national and regional level as well as an engine for the development of international trade.
