Road to herd immunity: Over 160 thousand Moroccans received second dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Morocco continues its national vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in order to achieve herd immunity, and over 160 thousand people have already received their second shot of the vaccine, according to the Health Ministry.

The same source showed on Sunday in a daily report that 2,435,997 people received their first dose of the vaccine up to Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., while 162,000 received their second dose.

Morocco is being considered among the first countries in the world to launch a vaccination campaign against coronavirus; it was started on Jan. 28, 2021.

The Moroccan ministry of health has lately said that Morocco would achieve herd immunity within five months at maximum by vaccinating 80 percent of its citizen, which equals more than 30 million.

On the way to achieving that, Morocco has secured 8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far and expects to receive other shipments of the vaccine during March and April.

Morocco uses in its national vaccination campaign two types of COVID-19 vaccine, the AstraZeneca-Oxford’s vaccine and the Chinese Sinopharm’s.
