The First Lady of the United States Jill Biden will visit Morocco soon, her spokesperson Vanessa Valdivia announced on Friday.
The visit to the Kingdom is part of Ms. Biden's trip to the Middle East, North Africa and Europe scheduled to begin next Wednesday, the spokesperson said.
Through this regional tour, Ms. Biden intends to promote the conditions of women and young people around the world, particularly in terms of education, health and empowerment, according to the same source.
The visit of the First Lady of the United States to Morocco is the second following that of 2014, when Ms. Biden accompanied president Joe Biden, then vice president of the Obama administration, during his participation in the 5th edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) held in November in Marrakech.
Morocco has always been a preferred destination for First Ladies of the United States of America, as was the case in 1963 with the visit of Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of president John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and in 1999 with the visit of Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea. Ms. Clinton returned to the Kingdom in 2012 as Secretary of State under the Obama administration.
In 2016, Morocco also welcomed Michelle Obama, who was accompanied by her two daughters, Malia and Sasha. Ms. Obama's visit was part of the "Let Girls Learn" initiative launched in 2015.
This enthusiasm for the Kingdom, a land of welcome and hospitality, attests to the standing Morocco enjoys among senior American officials, and underscores the solidity of the long-standing strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
