FIFA President Gianni Infantino has named Morocco’s national football team among the leading candidates to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising the country’s recent achievements and growing stature in global football.
In a video published on his official Instagram account, Infantino said Morocco has the potential to lift the next World Cup trophy, pointing to the team’s strong performances in recent international competitions. He highlighted Morocco’s recent triumph at the Under-20 World Cup and its historic run to the semi-finals of the last senior World Cup edition as evidence of the nation’s football progress.
Infantino described Morocco’s previous World Cup campaign as “exceptional and highly emotional” for both the country and its supporters, noting that the achievement had a lasting impact on international perceptions of Moroccan football.
The FIFA chief added that Morocco has not only developed the technical skills of its players on the pitch but has also built a firm belief that it has become one of the major forces in world football, a status he said has effectively been achieved.
He further commended the work of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, stating that significant efforts are being made under the leadership of the King of Morocco, who is widely known for his passion for football. Infantino also emphasized the deep connection between the Moroccan people and the sport.
Concluding his remarks, Infantino placed Morocco among the foremost favorites to win the 2026 World Cup, alongside the traditional national teams that regularly compete for the title.
