Le Figaro: Casablanca Region Offers Nature and Heritage-Filled Escapes

The Casablanca region offers a wealth of off-the-beaten-path destinations for travelers seeking a mix of nature and heritage, French daily Le Figaro reported Friday in its travel section.

Highlighting hidden gems within two hours of Morocco’s economic capital, the article spotlights Oualidia, El Jadida and Azemmour—destinations that blend scenic beauty with cultural depth.

Oualidia, described as one of Morocco’s most cherished natural sites, is praised for its 40-kilometre-long lagoon protected by dunes, offering calm waters for swimmers and surfers, oyster beds, and a sanctuary for more than 100 bird species, including flamingos.

The paper also features El Jadida, a former Portuguese stronghold recognized by UNESCO for its 16th-century military architecture. The fortified coastal town boasts panoramic views, colonial-era churches, and remnants of consular life from its 19th-century peak.

In Azemmour, across the Oum Er-Rbia River, Le Figaro highlights the city’s artistic spirit and architectural charm—whitewashed buildings, carved doors, and colorful murals—enhanced in recent years by a growing street art scene.
