Marrakech Sees 9% Rise in Hotel Stays by End of February, Retains Top Spot Among Moroccan Tourist Destinations
Classified tourist accommodation establishments in Marrakech recorded a 9 percent increase in overnight stays by the end of February 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data released by the Tourism Observatory.
The total number of overnight stays in the city’s classified accommodation units reached 1,536,868 by the end of February, up from 1,405,404 during the same period last year.
The occupancy rate across these establishments stood at 68 percent in January and February, compared to 62 percent over the same months in 2024.
In February alone, Marrakech’s classified hotels registered an 11 percent year-on-year increase in overnight stays, reaching 792,194 nights with an occupancy rate of 73 percent, compared to 712,879 nights and an occupancy rate of 67 percent in February 2024.
Thanks to this strong performance, Marrakech maintained its position as Morocco’s leading tourist destination, followed by Agadir (992,008 overnight stays), Casablanca (365,501), Tangier (223,898), Fez (149,538), Al Haouz (114,688), and Essaouira (104,492).
Nationally, more than 4.2 million overnight stays were recorded in classified tourist accommodation establishments by the end of February 2025, marking a 16 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The Observatory noted that this growth was driven by both domestic tourism, which rose by 6 percent, and international tourism, which increased by 20 percent.
