Tourist Arrivals in Morocco Exceeded 1.14 Mln in June 2022

Tourist arrivals exceeded 1,140,000 people in June 2022, a 5% increase compared to the figures of June 2019 and a 235% increase compared to June 2021, the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy (Tourism Department) said.

"The sector maintains its steady pace across all the aggregators, including the number of tourist arrivals. The month of June has recorded more than 1,140,000 tourist arrivals. This performance exceeds that of June 2019 which saw the arrival of 1,092,000 tourists (+5%). This growth is even more pronounced compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 235%," the ministry said in a statement.

"Tourism in Morocco continues its upward trajectory towards its pre-pandemic levels. The accelerated pace of recovery augurs even a performance exceeding that of 2019 for the summer period," it added.

Moroccans living abroad have contributed to this growth, with the arrival of 620,000 nationals in June, i.e., a 27% increase compared to June 2019. These arrivals will peak during July and August 2022.

Several factors will contribute to accelerating this recovery such as a stronger air capacity exceeding that of 2019, the various partnerships signed with tour operators to secure a significant number of arrivals, and the measures undertaken to promote attractiveness, including the launch of the electronic visa as of July 10.
