Jerusalem Post: Morocco, Indonesia Poised to Form Largest Peacekeeping Forces in Gaza

Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post reported that Morocco and Indonesia are expected to constitute the two largest contingents within the anticipated International Stabilization Force (ISF) to be deployed in the Gaza Strip, as part of arrangements tied to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The force is projected to assume peacekeeping-related duties, including supervising ceasefire lines and handling certain border-related issues, without engaging in direct combat operations or initiatives aimed at disarming Hamas.

Citing additional Israeli media outlets, including KAN News, the newspaper indicated that Greece is also set to join the multinational force. The disclosures came alongside the announcement that Indonesia would be the first country to formally commit to the mission, ahead of the scheduled “Board of Peace” summit due to take place in the United States later this week.

According to the same report, drawing on information from the Associated Press, Indonesia is expected to begin its contribution to the ISF in April, with an initial deployment of around 1,000 soldiers, before expanding to a primary force of approximately 8,000 troops by June inside Gaza.

Regarding Morocco, as well as Albania and Greece — whose names surfaced after Indonesia — The Jerusalem Post noted that precise timelines for troop deployments remain unclear. Nevertheless, previous reports have suggested that Morocco and Indonesia are likely to emerge as the largest potential contributors to the peacekeeping mission in terms of personnel.

The newspaper further relayed that Indonesian authorities are currently in the process of selecting and vetting soldiers for participation in the force, while also signaling that any deterioration in security conditions in Gaza, particularly the risk of renewed clashes with Hamas, could lead to a postponement of troop deployment.

In recent months, Indonesia has frequently been mentioned as a prospective contributor to the stabilization force alongside the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Egypt, Italy, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, and other countries. However, according to the report, none of the states cited have yet moved beyond general pledges to a concrete state of operational readiness to dispatch troops.
