Trump Shares First Image Purporting to Show Maduro After His Capture

Former US President Donald Trump has shared what he described as the first image of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following his alleged capture.

Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the image shows “Nicolás Maduro aboard the USS Iwo Jima.” He previously told Fox News that the US Navy vessel was transporting the Venezuelan leader to the United States.

The image published by Trump shows a man resembling Maduro wearing a grey tracksuit, with an eye mask and headphones on, seated in what appears to be a military setting.

There has been no independent confirmation of the authenticity of the image or of Trump’s claims regarding Maduro’s capture and transfer. Venezuelan authorities have not commented publicly on the post, and US officials have yet to issue an official statement corroborating the account.

The USS Iwo Jima is a US Navy amphibious assault ship that has been deployed in various operations in the region in recent years.
