Ahmed Aboul Gheit Re-elected as Head of Arab League

Arab Foreign Ministers approved, on Wednesday in Cairo, the reappointment of Ahmed Aboul Gheit as Secretary General of the League of Arab States for a new term.

In statements to the press, a diplomatic source stressed that Arab Foreign Ministers unanimously decided to approve the reappointment of the current Secretary General of the Arab League for a new term at a consultative meeting preceding the opening of the 155th ordinary session of the League Council at ministerial level, which is being held today.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, former Foreign Minister of Egypt, was appointed Secretary General of the Arab League in 2016.

The meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers will address a number of outstanding issues related to joint Arab action, the Palestinian cause, the Arab-Israeli conflict and developments in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Lebanon.

Morocco is represented at this meeting by a delegation led by Nezha El Ouafi, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, in charge of Moroccan Expatriates.
