Coronavirus measures in 2020 reduce road accidents in Morocco

A significant drop of all indicators related to traffic injuries was recorded in 2020 compared to 2019, according to the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA).

In its 2020 activity report, the Agency pointed out that 85,208 traffic injuries were recorded (-17.06%), and 2,499 fatal accidents were reported (-16.98%), while the number of people killed reached 2,774, i.e. a decline of 18.03%.

During the said period, the toll of serious injuries reached 6,539, a drop of 22.31%, while 112,516 minor injuries were reported, a decline of 19.20%, according to the same source.

This significant decline in road accidents indicators in 2020 is due to the implementation of measures related to the state of health emergency implemented in Morocco as of March 20. The drop in people's mobility resulted in a sharp decline of road hazards.
