Morocco keeps on track of strengthening and developing its military forces through signing various armament deals with different weapon manufacturers around the world since 2014, according to many observers.
However, since 2015, the United States is being considered the main Morocco’s supplier of weapons by more than 91 percent of the total weapons that Morocco has purchased so far, according to a report issued by the Center for International Policy.
Although Morocco has headed its eyes towards the US to buy the most of its necessity from weapons, it did not stop its strategy of diversifying the armament sources, such as China and France.
In this context, the Moroccan army signed a deal with CPMIEC (China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation) to get the Chinese FD-2000 medium-range anti-aircraft missile system.
According to a trusted source, Morocco will receive the first batch of this defense system in the nearest future, adding that it will achieve a huge leap in Moroccan defenses against aircraft.
Another armament deal was signed by Morocco to strengthen its ground forces was recently revealed by the French Group Arquus when the CEO of the group, Emmanuel Levacher, announced on March 10 that Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces had ordered 300 VLRA trucks.
According to Arquus, VLRA is a “family of light tactical vehicles” and designed for combat and other military requirements.
The French group pointed out that Morocco ordered VLRA trucks in late 2020, but it did not mention the date of the delivery; however, this number of trucks is considered important and will promote the efficacity of the Moroccan army.
These armaments deals come at a time when Morocco’s relations with its neighbors, such as Algeria, wetness a tense because of the Sahara issue and the conflict with the separatist front POLISARIO.
According to many observers, Morocco wants to immunize its borders against any transgression and be ready for any circumstance that could push it to enter a war; for this reason, it keeps strengthening its military forces.
