Mezzour: Morocco Has All Necessary Components to Build a Battery Industry

Morocco possesses all the necessary components to develop a competitive battery industry, according to Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour.

Speaking on Wednesday in Rabat during a discussion session on "Macroeconomic Policies and Industrial Development," Mezzour emphasized that the strength of Morocco’s industrial sector lies in its diversified production streams, which significantly reinforce its role in the national economic structure.

He highlighted that Morocco’s growing attractiveness to international investors in the electric mobility sector, particularly in battery manufacturing, reflects the confidence in the country’s capabilities. This is due, he noted, to Morocco’s competitive advantages, which include low-carbon electricity, essential raw materials, strategic geographical positioning, and advanced logistics infrastructure.

The Minister further stressed that Morocco’s experience in the automotive and aviation industries has shown that the country can become a global leader in strategic industrial sectors. He pointed out that this success is the result of long-term public-private partnerships and sustained investment in infrastructure and skills development.

Mezzour concluded that Morocco is now focusing on creating an integrated ecosystem for battery production, from raw material processing to the final product, as part of its broader industrial policy aimed at boosting exports and enhancing national industrial sovereignty.
