Morocco has reinforced its national healthcare offering with the commissioning, on Friday, of 49 new urban and rural health centers across nine regions of the Kingdom, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced.
The launch of these new establishments comes in implementation of the royal directives of King Mohammed VI, aimed at completing the reform of the national health system, the ministry underscored in a statement.
Furthermore, the introduction of services in these new structures is part of the ongoing government program to rehabilitate primary healthcare facilities, which involves the reconstruction, modernization, and equipping of 1,400 health centers across all provinces of the Kingdom, the ministry clarified. This initiative, it added, is also aligned with the national strategy to reduce territorial disparities in access to health services.
These new-generation primary healthcare facilities are intended to strengthen the health provision in the provinces of the nine regions, bring basic health services closer to the beneficiary populations, and meet the growing demand for care, while improving the quality, accessibility, and conditions for welcoming and guiding users.
To support the implementation of healthcare services in the regions concerned and ensure the effective commissioning of these centers, a professional team of approximately 230 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, has been mobilized to deliver quality services for the benefit of the population.
The regions concerned include Souss-Massa, which will benefit from the services of six new health centers distributed between Taroudant (5), Tiznit (1), and Agadir Ida Outanane (1).
In the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, the healthcare provision has been strengthened with the commissioning of two health centers in Rabat. In the Drâa-Tafilalet region, two health centers in Tinghir have opened their doors to the public, while in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, a dispensary in Laâyoune has become operational.
In the Marrakech-Safi region, the population will now benefit from the services of 11 urban and rural health centers, distributed across Marrakech, Essaouira, and Al Haouz. As for the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, these centers are spread between Khénifra (3), Béni Mellal (1), and Khouribga (1).
In the Casablanca-Settat region, eight health establishments have been commissioned for local populations, divided between Nouaceur (6), Mohammédia (1), and Settat (1).
In the Oriental region, 10 centers have opened their doors in Nador (8), Driouch (1), and Figuig-Bouarfa (1), the same source reported, adding that the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region has seen its healthcare provision reinforced by the opening of four centers, distributed between Al Hoceïma (3) and Tangier-Assilah (1).
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection ensured that these establishments are equipped with modern and high-performance medical equipment, while mobilizing the necessary human resources to guarantee the medical and paramedical care of the beneficiary populations, the statement affirmed.
These centers, the same source specified, will offer a comprehensive basket of care, including general medical consultations, nursing care, monitoring of chronic diseases—notably diabetes and arterial hypertension—as well as maternal and child health, school health, health awareness and education, in addition to epidemiological surveillance and mobile health services.
