Morocco’s Ambassador to Tokyo Elected President of Council for Promotion of Francophonie in Japan

Rachad Bouhlal, Morocco’s Ambassador to Japan, has been elected by acclamation as President of the Council for the Promotion of Francophonie in Japan, during the Annual General Assembly held in Tokyo.

This election marks a new stage in the Council’s efforts to foster cooperation and dialogue between Francophone diplomatic missions and Japanese institutions.

Ambassador Bouhlal succeeds the Ambassador of Belgium, who chaired the Council over the past four years. Members praised the work accomplished under his leadership, which helped strengthen the visibility of Francophonie in Japan and promote its core values: solidarity, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.

The Council for the Promotion of Francophonie in Japan brings together ambassadors of Francophone countries accredited to Japan. It is led by an executive committee composed of the ambassadors of Morocco, France, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Belgium.

The Council is committed to promoting the French language and the values of Francophonie, while encouraging cultural, educational and economic exchanges with Japan.

Following his election, the newly appointed president expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the Council’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between Francophone countries and Japan.

"I am fully aware of the honour and responsibility that this presidency represents. Together, we will continue to promote Francophonie in Japan and build bridges of understanding and friendship between our peoples,” Bouhlal said
