Morocco Elected to UNESCO Executive Board for 2025-2029 Term

Morocco was elected on Friday as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025-2029 term during the 43rd session of the organization’s General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Kingdom secured its seat with 146 votes, topping the Arab group, followed by Jordan with 131 votes and Egypt with 114, while Algeria and Sudan were eliminated from the ballot, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates said in a statement.

The ministry noted that Morocco’s election reflects the international community’s recognition of the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI, particularly in promoting multilateralism, dialogue among civilizations, and sustainable human development.

The statement added that this achievement consolidates Morocco’s active and constructive role within UNESCO, reaffirming its commitment to advancing education, culture, science, and communication — essential foundations for peace and progress.

Under its new four-year mandate, Morocco will continue to strengthen international cooperation and promote the universal values of tolerance, mutual respect, and solidarity that guide UNESCO’s mission.

The UNESCO Executive Board, composed of 58 member states, operates under the authority of the General Conference. It examines the organization’s work program and the corresponding budget proposals submitted by the Director-General.
