Morocco has officially stepped into the 5G era, marking a historic milestone in its digital transformation journey. On Friday, the country’s three leading telecommunications operators — Inwi, Orange Maroc, and Maroc Telecom — simultaneously launched their ultra-high-speed 5G networks, ushering in a new chapter for connectivity across the Kingdom.
With the rollout, 5G coverage now extends across major Moroccan cities, offering ultra-low latency and lightning-fast download speeds. The new network promises smoother video calls, more immersive online gaming, and enhanced responsiveness for connected devices — enabling advanced applications for both personal and professional users.
In a statement, Inwi said its 5G technology enables the instant transfer and sharing of large files, designs, and videos, ensuring an “outstanding user experience” and paving the way for innovative digital uses. The operator, which serves around 18 million users, emphasized that its 5G service comes at no additional cost and does not require users to change their SIM cards.
Orange Maroc, for its part, announced that “more than a hundred Moroccan cities already benefit from 5G coverage” as of launch day, with expansion plans underway to cover the entire national territory. The company highlighted its efforts to strengthen international connectivity by linking Europe and Africa through high-capacity submarine cables, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a regional digital hub. Orange also underlined its environmental commitment, stating that its 5G infrastructure allows for optimal connectivity while reducing its carbon footprint, in line with its goal of fostering a more sustainable digital future.
Meanwhile, Maroc Telecom described 5G as a gateway to “new digital uses beyond performance,” including augmented reality, real-time online gaming, and telemedicine. The company said the deployment was made possible thanks to its massive investments in telecommunications infrastructure over recent years, which included modernizing both mobile and fixed networks, strengthening transmission capacity, and deploying next-generation systems across the Kingdom.
The simultaneous nationwide rollout by Morocco’s three operators positions the country at the forefront of digital innovation in Africa, as it embraces a technology that is expected to revolutionize industries, boost competitiveness, and further enhance the quality of digital services for millions of users.
