Gambia and Malawi Reaffirm Support for Morocco’s Sahara, Welcome UN Resolution 2797

Gambia and Malawi on Wednesday reaffirmed their unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and praised UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which consolidates the Autonomy Plan as the sole realistic solution to end the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

During a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Serign Modou Njie, commended the latest UN resolution, which strengthens Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces. He reiterated his country’s unconditional support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan.

Similarly, Malawi renewed its firm position in support of the Moroccan Sahara. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George Chaponda emphasized during his talks with Bourita that the Autonomy Plan represents the serious, credible, and lasting basis for reaching a political solution to the artificial conflict. He also welcomed the role of Resolution 2797 in reinforcing this path.

These consistent positions reflect growing African support for the Moroccan initiative and further consolidate the international momentum backing a political solution based on autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.
