Sierra Leone Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Sahara

The Republic of Sierra Leone reaffirmed on Thursday its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including its sovereignty over the Sahara region, highlighting its satisfaction with the recent historic adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.

The position was conveyed by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Musa Timothy Kabba, during talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita. Kabba reiterated his country’s full backing of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, describing it as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to the longstanding dispute over the Sahara.

Kabba also welcomed the growing international consensus supporting Morocco’s position, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He noted that the adoption of UNSC Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025, enshrines Morocco’s Autonomy Plan within the framework of its sovereignty, providing a sustainable and politically viable basis for resolving the artificial conflict over the Sahara.
