France Hails “Excellent” Security Cooperation with Morocco as Partnership Continues to Strengthen

French Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, lauded on Tuesday in Marrakech the “excellent” level of security cooperation between Morocco and France, affirming Paris’s commitment to strengthening this strategic partnership, particularly in counterterrorism and the fight against organized crime.

Speaking to the press following his meeting with Morocco’s Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, Nuñez stressed that the two countries enjoy “a very high level of cooperation” in a field that he described as essential to the stability and safety of both nations.

“Morocco and France enjoy excellent cooperation in the field of security, mainly in counterterrorism and the fight against organized crime,” the French minister said, emphasizing that he remains “very committed to maintaining this cooperation,” which he expects to further grow in the coming period.

Highlighting the strength of ties between Rabat and Paris, Nuñez underlined that maintaining an elevated level of coordination is crucial: “When it comes to security, it is essential to maintain a very high level of cooperation, given that relations between our two countries are very strong.”

The French minister also pointed to the broader scope of cooperation, noting that the partnership extends beyond counterterrorism to include various security-related areas, such as civil protection.

“We have a very high level of collaboration,” he reiterated, adding that his visit to Morocco aims to reaffirm to his Moroccan counterpart that “we will continue in the same direction” and that the two countries are determined to “strengthen our cooperation.”
