At least nineteen people have died and sixteen others were injured following the collapse of two adjacent four-story residential buildings in the city of Fez, Moroccan local authorities said early Wednesday. The incident occurred overnight in the Al Moustakbal district of the Al Massira area, where the buildings were home to eight families, according to a provisional official report.
Emergency response teams, including local authorities, security services and Civil Protection units, rushed to the scene immediately after the collapse to conduct search and rescue operations. Rescue workers worked through the night to locate survivors who might still be trapped beneath the debris.
Authorities also implemented urgent preventive measures by securing the area surrounding the collapsed structures and evacuating residents of neighboring houses to protect them from potential risks and further structural failures.
All injured victims were transported to the University Hospital Center of Fez for medical treatment, while rescue operations remain ongoing as teams continue to search for any additional survivors under the rubble, the same official source confirmed.
