Morocco, China Hold Seventh Joint Committee Session to Deepen Strategic Partnership

The seventh session of the trade, economic and technical cooperation joint committee between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China was held on Tuesday in Beijing, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral ties.

The meeting formed part of the follow-up to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two countries in 2016, reflecting their shared commitment to sustained cooperation across key sectors.

The session was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and China’s Assistant Minister of Commerce, Zhang Li, underscoring the high-level nature of the talks.

It brought together a large Moroccan delegation, including representatives from several ministerial departments, alongside His Majesty the King’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari.

The discussions highlighted the mutual will of Rabat and Beijing to deepen the strategic dialogue initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Xi Jinping, with the aim of further consolidating relations between the two countries, both described as having millenary civilizations.

During the session, the Chinese side welcomed Morocco’s economic progress, commending in particular the vision of King Mohammed VI, which was described as “clear-sighted, solidary and committed.”

In this context, Minister Mezzour presented Morocco’s major structuring projects, driven by the Royal Vision and illustrating the Kingdom’s ongoing momentum of modernization and development.

He also highlighted the opportunities linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, stressing the scale of investment prospects associated with the event.

The African dimension of the Sino-Moroccan partnership featured prominently in the exchanges, with in-depth discussions on Morocco’s role as a regional hub and a strategic gateway for the development of China–Africa relations.

These talks were framed within the broader context of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where Morocco’s positioning as a bridge between China and the African continent was emphasized.

Participants also explored ways to give new impetus to the bilateral partnership by leveraging the considerable and complementary potential of both economies.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue enhancing cooperation mechanisms and expanding collaboration in trade, investment and technical fields.
