Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca has crossed the symbolic threshold of 11 million passengers for the first time, consolidating its position as Morocco’s main air gateway amid a surge in traffic linked to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
In a statement, Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) said the milestone reflects the airport’s growing centrality in national and continental air transport, with Casablanca now accounting for 31% of total airport traffic across the Kingdom.
The airport’s performance has been driven by the exceptional momentum generated by AFCON 2025, which attracted a large influx of supporters, official delegations, and international visitors, in addition to the strengthening of air links serving the economic capital.
According to ONDA, annual passenger traffic increased from 10.5 million in 2024 to 11.5 million by the end of 2025, marking a year-on-year rise of 9.3%. The steady growth confirms a sustained upward trajectory toward 2030.
“This performance underscores Casablanca Airport’s strategic role in Morocco’s air transport ecosystem,” ONDA noted, adding that the hub continues to reinforce its status as a key connection point between Africa, Europe, and beyond.
The outlook aligns with the national “Airports 2030” strategy, which seeks to support rising demand through capacity expansion, infrastructure modernization, and improvements to the passenger experience.
Within this framework, Casablanca Airport is projected to handle 12.5 million passengers as early as 2026, with traffic expected to exceed 20 million by 2030.
AFCON 2025 has thus emerged as a powerful accelerator for Moroccan air transport, showcasing Mohammed V Airport’s capacity to host events of global scale and signaling a new phase of sustainable growth for the sector, according to ONDA.
