Heavy Rain, Hail, and Strong Winds Expected Across Several Moroccan Provinces

Morocco’s Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued weather alerts warning of heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail, sporadic strong wind gusts, snowfall in some areas, and a cold spell expected to affect several provinces of the Kingdom from Saturday through Monday.

According to an orange-level alert released by the DGM, heavy thunderstorms with rainfall totals ranging between 40 and 55 millimeters are forecast from Saturday at 11:00 a.m. until Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in the provinces of Taroudant, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Essaouira, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, and Inezgane-Ait Melloul. These storms are expected to be accompanied by hail and localized strong wind gusts.

The same weather conditions, with rainfall amounts between 25 and 40 millimeters, are expected to affect a wide range of other provinces. These include Al Haouz, Azilal, Settat, El Jadida, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Tiznit, Chichaoua, Mohammadia, Khenifra, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, Rabat, Khemisset, Casablanca, Mediouna, Berrechid, Benslimane, Skhirate-Temara, Marrakech, Rehamna, Salé, Kelaa Sraghna, and Nouaceur.

In northern parts of the Kingdom, the DGM also forecast significant rainfall totals ranging from 40 to 70 millimeters between Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday at 11:00 p.m. This weather system will affect the provinces of Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Al Hoceima, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Kenitra, Chefchaouen, M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Tangier-Assilah, and Ouezzane.

The meteorological authority urged citizens to remain vigilant, particularly in areas prone to flooding or difficult weather conditions, and to follow updates and safety guidance issued by the relevant authorities.
