Heavy Rain, Snowfall and Strong Winds Forecast Across Several Moroccan Provinces

Heavy rain, snowfall and strong to locally very strong winds are expected on Friday and Saturday in several provinces of the Kingdom, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) announced in a series of weather alert bulletins.

According to a red-level alert, heavy rainfall, mainly affecting mountainous areas, with accumulations ranging between 80 and 120 mm, is forecast from Friday at 5:00 p.m. until Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the provinces of Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroudant and Essaouira.

The DGM also issued an orange-level alert for fairly heavy rainfall totaling between 30 and 45 mm over the same period in the provinces of Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inezgane, Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Chichaoua, Al Haouz and Youssoufia.

In addition, snowfall is expected on Saturday in areas located above 1,600 meters, with snow depths ranging from 10 to 30 cm. The affected provinces include Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant and Chichaoua, with snowfall forecast from midnight until 6:00 p.m..

The DGM further warned of strong to locally very strong winds, with speeds reaching 95 to 105 km/h on Friday from 00:00 to 11:00 p.m. in Al Haouz and Chichaoua. Winds of 90 to 100 km/h are expected in El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Midelt and Azilal, while gusts ranging from 75 to 90 km/h will affect Youssoufia, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Agadir Ida-Outanane and Taroudant.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant, particularly in mountainous and coastal areas, and to follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities during the adverse weather conditions.
