Morocco, Chile Seek to Deepen Economic Partnership During High-Level Trade Mission

A high-level Moroccan economic mission led by Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade Omar Hejira is paying an official visit to Chile, aimed at broadening economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The visit takes place within the framework of the Morocco–Chile Economic Forum, which seeks to strengthen bilateral economic relations and lay the foundations for a structured and sustainable strategic partnership, in line with the implementation of Morocco’s 2025–2027 Foreign Trade Programme.

According to officials, the mission is grounded in principles of economic integration, mutual cooperation and increased trade, with a focus on complementarity and the development of long-term partnerships between Morocco and Latin American countries.

As part of the visit, Hejira held talks with Chile’s Minister of Economy, Tourism and Energy, Álvaro García Hurtado, in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Chile, Kenza El Ghali. Discussions focused on the state of bilateral economic relations, prospects for cooperation, and the identification of priority sectors with high growth potential.

The talks also explored ways to strengthen cooperation in several areas, particularly in light of Morocco’s preparations to host the 2030 World Cup, the development of structuring industrial partnerships, the promotion of joint investment projects, and the strengthening of the private sector’s role as a key driver of economic cooperation.

Hejira was also received by Chile’s Deputy Minister for International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, as part of the implementation of the joint declaration signed on December 18, 2024. During the meeting, both sides agreed to hold the second session of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission in 2026 in Morocco, with the aim of establishing a joint roadmap based on complementarity and the strategic positioning of the two countries as gateways to Africa and Latin America.

On this occasion, Hejira highlighted that Morocco has concluded more than 12 free trade agreements, providing access to markets spanning over 100 countries and nearly three billion consumers. He stressed that this positions the Kingdom, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, as a strategic platform linking African and global markets.
