The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday evening that three Moroccan citizens were killed in a shooting incident near Morocco’s southeastern border, following an intervention by Algerian army units in an area adjacent to Béchar province.
According to a statement from the ministry, published by Algerian media, “joint units of the National People’s Army, border guards, and Algerian customs successfully neutralized three Moroccan nationals involved in smuggling.”
The ministry said that the individuals had attempted to exploit local weather conditions to carry out “criminal activities," adding that a fourth Moroccan was arrested.
The operation reportedly led to the seizure of 74 kilograms of processed cannabis, a hunting rifle, a field telescope, four mobile phones, and other equipment.
As of now, there has been no official comment from the Moroccan authorities regarding the incident.
