'Polisario' leader to be judged 'virtually' before Spanish court

The spokesman for the Spanish Supreme National Court in Madrid announced that the leader of the "Polisario", Brahim Ghali, will be heard on June 1, 2021.

According to the Spanish media, Ghali will respond to the court summons and appear before the judge "virtually" due to his health condition, as he is being treated in Logroño Hospital for his cancer.

According to El Pais, the leader of the "Polisario", who has begun to recover in recent weeks, will be brought before the court as an "accused", to respond to the complaint filed against him by the Sahrawi blogger with Spanish nationality, Fadel Barika, in which he accuses him of torture.

Brahim Ghali will also face the Sahrawi Association for Human Rights complaint, which accuses him of involvement in genocide, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance.

The leader of the "Polisario" is considered the main cause of the current crisis between Rabat and Madrid, due to Spain's acceptance of Brahim Ghali receiving treatment inside its territory, which Morocco considered a blow to good-neighborly relations.
