How King Mohamed VI's economic vision made Morocco strong competitor for Spain?

Since the first year of his reign in Morocco, it has been clear that King Mohamed VI has different strategies for his own country. Strategies that rely on strengthening the economy to face all other challenges represented by other competitors in the region, such as Spain, the neighbor located in the North.

Exactly in the north of Morocco, the king's economic vision has found its starting point with mega-projects that have changed the country's face and made it able to be one of the strong competitors in the region, especially in dragging the foreign investment.

The first mega project that King Mohamed VI had launched after a few years as a King of Morocco was the Tangier Med Port, which entered into service in 2007. Since then, Morocco has become one of the well-known destinations in maritime trade in the world.

To facilitate the transportation of products and goods from the port to other regions inside Morocco or the opposite, the king in 2007, signed an agreement with the French company Alstom to complete the high-speed train 'TGV' to link between Tangiers and Casablanca, and that was the king's second mega project.

The mega port and high-speed train attracted much foreign investment to Morocco; among these investments is the inauguration of the largest car factory in Africa on Tangier's outskirts, the Renault Nissan plant in the 'Automotive City' area of Tangier Med port in 2012.

Economic analysts consider that the Renault plant project in Tangiers is one of the mega-projects during the reign of Mohammed VI, due to its heavyweight in the Moroccan economy now, to the point where Moroccan exports of cars have exceeded Morocco's exports of phosphates in recent years, something had never happened before.

These projects have changed totally the face of the north of Morocco, which was living in decades of neglect and has had a great impact on the inhabitants in terms of creating jobs for them. In addition to that, the king had launched in parallel with economic projects, other projects to improve the infrastructure of northern cities to narrow the aesthetic deferences with Spain's southern cities.

These developments have attracted the Spanish attention and their admiration, as mentioned in some Spanish media reports, which talked about King Mohamed VI's huge efforts to transform Morocco into a strong competitor at all levels in just two decades of his reign.

According to Morocco's neighbor media in the North, Spain sees Morocco as a real competitor in attracting investments and maritime trade due to King Mohamed VI's economic vision.
