Morocco signs $50.7 million deal with Turkey to acquire 'Koral Electronic Warfare System'

Morocco has signed a deal with the Turkish arms manufacturer Aselsan, worth $50.7 million, to acquire the Koral-EW (Koral electronic warfare system), according to Global Defense Corp.

The deal includes the acquisition by the Moroccan army of this system, consisting of modern military means of communication, radars, electronic weapons, control and command devices, in addition to the navigation system and other weapons, which Morocco will acquire during the years 2023 and 2024.

This electronic military system is capable of being transported on the ground on military trucks, and is used to jam enemy radars, locate and disrupt them, in addition to carrying out electronic military attacks, and the ability of this system to reach targets within 200 kilometers.

This new deal comes only a few months after Morocco signed other arms deals with Turkish arms manufacturers, in steps aimed at diversifying the sources of the Kingdom of Morocco's armaments, after the United States of America, which is the largest and main supplier of arms to Morocco.

It should be noted that Morocco had signed a deal to acquire 13 Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones with all their equipment, with a value of up to 65 million dollars.

Morocco has also acquired from Turkey the Ejder Yalcin armored vehicles and has already acquired many of them, which have practically entered service as part of the reinforcement of the special forces.

These arms deals take place in an international context full of tension in the vicinity of the Kingdom of Morocco, where the Moroccan army has engaged in confrontations during the past months with the separatist Polisario Front in the Sahara regions, in addition to the existing tension with Algeria due to the latter's support for the aforementioned front.

Morocco is also experiencing a diplomatic crisis with Spain because of the latter's reception of the leader of the Polisario, and this led to Morocco severing its relationship with Sanchez's government and reducing cooperation in many areas, and the relationship is still not back to normal until the time.
