Bremen coach under investigation for alleged fake vaccine certificate

The coach of German football club Werder Bremen is being investigated for allegedly using a false coronavirus vaccine certificate.

The club said it was informed of the investigation into Markus Anfang on Thursday evening.

"In a personal conversation with management, Markus Anfang has decisively rejected the allegations emphatically stated that he was fully vaccinated and has not used a falsified vaccine certificate," Werder said in a statement.

"Just like every other double vaccinated person, I got both my vaccine doses in an official vaccine centre and received the corresponding sticker in my yellow vaccine passport.

"I took that to the pharmacy and had it digitized and naturally assumed everything was in order. I hope the issue is cleared up quickly," Anfang was cited in the statement as saying.

Anfang took over as Werder Bremen's coach earlier this year. He was previously at Darmstadt.
