In Algeria, many questions are being asked about the Algerian regime's seriousness to respond to the people's demands, which were raised in the 'Hirak' protests two years ago in the streets. These questions have started to emerge after Khalid Nizar's return, the former defense minister of Algeria to the country, a man who was accused of violating the authority of the army and conspiring against the authority of the state.
General Khalid Nizar was one of the most Algerian heads who was demanded to be stepped aside from power because of his long history with corruption, especially that he has always been accused of being one of those responsible for the Black decade that Algeria suffered in the nineteens causing the death of more than 200 thousand innocent people.
In the middle of the people protests that lasted months in Algeria two years ago, Khalid Nizar fled to Spain, claiming that he had traveled for treatment, but he never went back to Algeria until 11th December 2020.
The death of El Gaid Saleh, the chief of staff of the army, on 23 December 2020 was considered as a turning point in the case of Khalid Nizar because the demands of judging him in front of the Algerian justice has softened since then, given the rapprochement of Nizar with the new chief of staff of the army Said Chengriha, the actual ruler of Algeria now since the president Abdelmajid Teboune still absent from the scene because of his illness from the effects of his Coronavirus infection.
Khalid Nizar is not only one of the old Algerian regime faces who have returned to Algeria recently, but also the former intelligence chief Lieutenant General Mohamed Median, known as General Tawfiq, and General Bashir Tartag, and all of them expected to face a mock trial this time, after canceling the previous sentences against them with the accuses of corruption that supported by the late El Gaid Saleh.
The observers of what is happening in the Algerian scene believe that the military regime in this large African country is reproducing himself once again, the old faces could step away from the scene, but they would never face any fair judgment; for this reason, many think that the demands of the Algerian protests to hold those responsible for corruption accountable are gone.
