Morocco and Liberia Sign Military Cooperation Agreement to Boost Bilateral Defense Ties

The Minister Delegate to the Head of Morocco's Government in charge of the National Defense Administration received, on Tuesday in Rabat, Liberia’s Minister of National Defense, Geraldine Janet George, who is leading a large delegation on a working visit to Morocco.

The visit, which reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen and diversify their bilateral relations, was marked by the signing of a Military Cooperation Agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Liberia, the National Defense Administration said in a statement.

Signed in the presence of the Lieutenant General, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the South Zone, the agreement lays the foundation for enhanced collaboration in training, joint exercises, technical assistance, military health, and the exchange of expertise and experience across various defense fields.

The document also provides for the establishment of a joint military commission, which will identify and coordinate priority areas of cooperation and convene alternately in Rabat and Monrovia.

During their discussions, both officials explored ways to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and reaffirmed the commitment of Morocco and Liberia to contribute actively to stability, security, and peace across Africa.

The talks also offered an opportunity to highlight the South-South cooperation initiatives spearheaded under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which have transformed Morocco into a key player in promoting regional stability, development, and shared prosperity on the continent.

At the close of the meeting, the two ministers expressed their mutual ambition to advance the longstanding friendship between Morocco and Liberia and to give new momentum to their defense partnership through the effective implementation of the newly signed cooperation agreement.

This agreement, observers note, strengthens Morocco’s growing defense ties with African partners and reinforces its strategic role as a reliable contributor to peace and security in the region.
