Morocco, Malawi Parliaments Sign MoU to Boost Legislative Cooperation

Morocco’s House of Representatives and the National Assembly of Malawi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday in Rabat, aiming to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the two legislative institutions.

The agreement was signed by the President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, and the Speaker of Malawi’s National Assembly, Sameer Gaffar Suleman, on the sidelines of the 3rd Annual General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL).

According to a statement from the Moroccan House of Representatives, the MoU seeks to enhance communication between parliamentarians and institutional bodies, coordinate positions at regional, continental, and international levels, and promote democratic values while consolidating the rule of law.

The agreement also provides for ongoing consultation within joint parliamentary organizations, coordination of positions in these frameworks, and the exchange of experiences and expertise among friendship groups, specialized committees, and administrative bodies. It further aims to promote the sharing of best practices in parliamentary work.

On the occasion of the signing, Talbi El Alami and Suleman held bilateral talks highlighting the importance of the MoU in advancing parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and Malawi. The discussions also addressed key challenges facing the African continent, along with several issues of mutual interest.

In a press statement, the Speaker of Malawi’s National Assembly stressed the importance of joint action among African parliaments, underlining the central role of the MoU in strengthening collective parliamentary efforts and building bridges of cooperation between the two legislative institutions.
