Egypt's president stresses support for comprehensive political solution in Yemen

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Monday stressed his country's steadfast support for reaching a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Yemen, according to the presidency office statement.

Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with visiting Yemeni Defense Minister Mohammed Ali Al-Maqdashi.

"Egypt will spare no effort to help Yemen to reach a solution that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people," said Bassam Rady, Egyptian presidential spokesman.

Al-Maqdashi hailed Egypt-Yemen cooperation in all fields, especially at the military and security levels, Rady added.

He said that Yemen hopes Egypt to continue supporting the political efforts aimed at containing the situation in Yemen and ending its humanitarian crisis.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Houthi militia seized control of several northern provinces and forced the internationally recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in March 2015 to support Hadi's government.
