Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Friday that the country has managed to reach 60 percent uranium enrichment in line with the previously announced plans.
The announcement was made on Twitter by Ghalibaf, saying that Iranian scientists had been able to enrich uranium to 60% purity.
In response to Sunday's cyberattack on the Natanz nuclear facility in central Iran’s Isfahan province, the move has already raised concerns with the US and European countries.
Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, currently leading an Iranian delegation for talks in Vienna towards returning to the Iran nuclear deal, on Thursday defended the enrichment move.
He said the measure was taken within the framework of Articles 26 and 36 of the 2015 deal and to meet the country’s medical needs.
