Agricultural Products: EU Parliament Blocks Attempt to Obstruct Agricultural Deal with Morocco

The European Parliament on Wednesday rejected a “motion of objection” introduced by right-wing and far-right groups seeking to block the delegated act presented by the European Commission regarding the export of Moroccan agricultural products to the European market. The decision confirms the Parliament’s backing for the Commission’s proposal, which stems from commitments made under the Exchange of Letters signed between Morocco and the European Union on October 3.

By voting down the objection, the European Parliament effectively ratified the delegated act, which formalizes the reference to the regions of the Moroccan Sahara in line with the bilateral Agreement. This act ensures the continued implementation of the provisions negotiated between Rabat and Brussels concerning the access of Moroccan products to the EU market.

On October 3, 2025, Morocco and the EU signed in Brussels an exchange of letters amending their agricultural agreement, reaffirming that the same preferential access granted to goods from the rest of the Kingdom applies equally to agricultural products originating from the southern provinces. The updated framework also introduces technical adjustments designed to facilitate market entry and enhance product value, notably through improved consumer labeling indicating production regions such as “Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra” and “Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.”
