Ahead of AFCON 2025: Morocco Receives 723 Buses from China to Secure Transportation During the Tournament

Morocco has officially received 723 new buses from the Chinese company Yutong as part of ongoing preparations to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. The move aims to ensure smooth and secure transportation during the continental football event, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, this delivery represents the first batch of a fleet dedicated to transporting fans and participating teams throughout the tournament. The buses were specifically designed to withstand Morocco’s diverse climatic and geographical conditions, ranging from heat, humidity, and sandstorms to rugged slopes.

This deal marks Yutong’s first entry into the Moroccan market, establishing a strong foothold for the global brand at a time when Morocco is keen to strengthen international partnerships in support of major sporting events.

The Chinese company noted that the new buses are equipped with the Blue Core System, a fuel-saving technology, as well as smart programs that improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption, aligning with Morocco’s sustainable development goals.

The buses also underwent a series of rigorous tests, including a 10,000-kilometer simulation, to ensure durability and their ability to provide the highest standards of comfort and safety for passengers during the intense match-day schedules and travel demands of the competition.

This delivery represents the largest single bus deal from China in Africa. Morocco will also benefit from comprehensive accompanying services, including training, maintenance, spare parts supply, and direct technical support from more than 100 experts who will oversee the integration of these buses into the national transport network.

Yutong has extensive experience in providing transport solutions for major global events, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the G20 Summit, the APEC Summit, and the Paris 2024 Olympics.

For Morocco, the acquisition is part of a broader strategic vision to develop the transport sector. The country plans to purchase around 7,000 new buses by 2030, half of which will be electric, in line with its commitments to energy transition and environmental protection.

The project is directly linked not only to preparations for AFCON 2025 but also to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, requiring transport standards that meet the scale of global football events.

Beyond the tournament, these new buses are expected to add lasting value to Morocco’s transport sector by being integrated into public transport services and enhancing mobility across the Kingdom’s major cities.
