Akhannouch: 2030 World Cup Will Be a "Pivotal Milestone" in Morocco’s Development Path

Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, affirmed on Friday in Rabat that the Kingdom’s joint hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal marks a pivotal moment in Morocco’s strategic transformation—not merely a global sporting event.

In a video address during the opening of the 8th edition of the Morocco Today Forum (MTF), Akhannouch emphasized that the 2030 World Cup represents a valuable opportunity to embody the royal vision of building an inclusive, dynamic, and sovereign Morocco. He added, “We are convinced that hosting the World Cup will consolidate and accelerate this profound transformation and serve as a pivotal milestone toward a new developmental era.”

The Head of Government pointed out that, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, the Kingdom is steadily translating this vision into concrete actions across all sectors—from state-of-the-art infrastructure meeting the highest international standards, to an extensive network of roads, railways, and airports, as well as sports, health, and tourism facilities.

He also noted Morocco's unprecedented growth in the tourism sector, recording a historic 17.4 million tourists in 2024, alongside increasing national and foreign investments—both reflecting a strong economic momentum that opens up new prospects for youth and future generations.

Akhannouch highlighted Morocco’s openness to advanced industrial sectors, such as clean energy, telecommunications, and digitalization, stressing that the country is on course to become a continental and international model in several areas. He also reaffirmed the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening the social state and implementing the social protection project in line with the royal agenda.

It is worth noting that the Morocco Today Forum 2025 is held under the theme: "A King's Vision – Morocco 2030: Strengthening the Foundations of a Great Nation", with the participation of prominent decision-makers and international experts in economics, sports, digitalization, and media, as part of Morocco’s preparations to host the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
